Black Glasses Film Festival
The Problem: Display all the necessary information with a visual that captures and celebrates the essence of film.
Originally started by film students in 1999, the Black Glasses Film Festival has grown into an annual event sponsored by Baylor Film & Digital Media to give students an opportunity to showcase their films and reach a wider audience. Black Glasses takes place at the end of each spring semester and is dedicated to exhibiting the best student work in film-making and screenwriting.
Since the Black Glasses Film Festival embraces film culture, I decided to depict it through the image of an iconic film character, Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock is a detective who displays superb logic and reasoning skills. These skills are also essential to any film student, so I felt Sherlock was a suitable fit. I depicted Sherlock emerging from a swirling mass of film. The film itself spews outwards from the smoke in his pipe. The English skyline rises up behind him in layers of purple. The lines of film and text break the image plane to create a dynamic and action-packed poster. The type is presented in white against the black mass of film, and the stark contrast allows the type to become a focal point. |
